Lead Drafting Technician / Technologist

Are you a motivated and entrepreneurial individual who wants more than to just be another employee in the corporate chain? TREK is seeking an experienced draftsperson to lead our drafting department in both the geotechnical and water resource practice areas. TREK Geotechnical Inc. is a Manitoba owned and operated engineering consulting firm providing geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering services in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Yukon and Alberta. Headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba with almost 40 full-time staff, TREK provides geotechnical and hydrotechnical engineering services as its core service areas. TREK provides in-house laboratory testing services and construction management capabilities with surveying and on-site quality control testing services. Your Opportunity:

The role of a CAD Technician / Technologist is to work as a team member on small and large projects under close guidance and supervision. Work will include performing a variety of tasks which may include assisting with the plans for earthworks, grading, slope stabilization works, diversion channels, erosion protection, culverts, bridges and other projects. The lead drafting technician will undertake technical work but will also oversee work assigned to other drafting staff, as required. A core responsibility will be to establish and maintain CAD standards to be applied universally to our projects.

Your Qualifications:

  • Technical degree/diploma/certificate or equivalent in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5-10 years of experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and maintain CAD standards.
  • Strong organizational skills, along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and demonstrate a flexible approach to work assignments.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency using Autodesk products including but not limited to Autocad and Civil 3D.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft (MS) Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Working knowledge of basic engineering and quantity calculations.
  • Experience in topographic surveying would be considered an asset, to aid in processing and disseminating field data.
  • Working knowledge of mapping software such as ArcGIS and database software such ash MS Access would be considered an asset.
  • Personnel management would be considered an asset.
  • Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
  • Valid drivers' license required

Your Responsibilities:

  • Uses knowledge of tools and drafting to complete assigned tasks including 2D and 3D model development, completing design changes, plan, profile and cross-section drawing production, redlining, plotting, and drafting using CAD platforms. Earthworks planning, quantity estimation and surface definition.
  • Will work closely with engineers and senior designers on assigned projects.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours per week

 

Lead Field and Laboratory Services Technician

  • Geotechnical experience will be considered an asset
  • Valid drivers' license

Student and Intern Opportunities

We employ students for summer or short-term positions through the University of Manitoba and Red River College engineering co-op programs, so keep an eye out for job postings from TREK through the program websites. We also hire engineering interns and technicians for seasonal and permanent positions throughout the year, most often in the summer months. We typically make hiring decisions for summer employment by March, with most applications received between November and January.
